Everything That Falls Must Break.

what goes up must come down
what goes around must come around
what floats may one day sink and drown
what falls gets broken
a million little pieces shattered open
trying to patch everything up
with soggy “I’m sorry” glue
and valedictions of
“it’s not me, it’s you”
and
“it’s not you, it’s me”

hoaxes of faithless love
that I would rather believe in,
the kind of sadness that I would prefer,
a shade of blue that from me, nothing would deter

pictures in your mind
of places you’ve memorized by heart,
all the cracks in the pavement
and the root patterns of trees
you know them all
like the lines in the palm of your hand;
wary of visiting there once again
lest you get haunted by the ghosts from your past.

same way you have me
in the palm of your hand
but your soul still bears
the fingerprints of a past love
forever their name on your lips.

And so your heart tells you not yet
but my mind told me to jump
then fall
and i did
but you didn’t catch me

how was I to know
that wasn’t the way to go?
same book,
same chapter, different pages.

you stand and listen
as my heart
falls and gets broken
a million little pieces, shattered open
writhing in pain, get me out of this pit,
I see your point of view, even though I don’t want to

I reach for your hand,
this newly learnt lesson I chant
like a mantra;
“everything that falls must break,
it is better to love than to fall in love.”
