i remember
your smile’s cure
handwritten notes with your laughter in them
face shone like a lighthouse
over a dark coast
and for once i let go
of my fears and my ghosts
i remember
when my heart was a broken vase
that once held the flowers we grew together;
memories
you pieced me back together
and glued all the cracks
with gold-laced lacquer
and we both embraced my imperfections
i remember
tears at midnight
on the balcony
your gaze in the dim light
when you dried my tears with your hands
and then painted a wistful smile on my face
and i didn’t ever need a bulletproof shield,
just in case life chose violence,
embossomed by you
the stars aligned
formed a constellation of you and I;
a drawing of us in the sky
i hope
that when you look out your window tonight
you’ll see that constellation
and all the memories
and maybe shed a tear
as you miss me
the way i miss you.
