Take me back to the City of Angels
Shining in the light of your Halo
made of nothing but love
Remember
When we were high like angels
But our golden wings
Got us too close to the sun
We didn’t care
as we looked down on those damned devils
They play stupid games and roll fake dice
We roll our eyes
While they pay the price
We crossed paths
Your light was blinding like the sun
And I was just cold and grey
Like the moon, reflecting your luminosity
we aligned
you came into view
I guess we could call this phenomenon
an eclipse
Two worlds collide – well not quite
And I reckon you grew tired of us
When were high like angels
We said no rules in this breakable heaven
when we were high like angels
And our intense heat fades into nothing
Like a fever dream in the quiet night,
gone when the morning comes.
This poem was inspired by the songs Cruel Summer and Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince by Taylor Swift. (from her 7th studio album, Lover.)
